Collectibles are non-unique items that can be collected over the course of the game, meaning either they're a theoretically unlimited expendable resource, or several of the same type can be obtained. They're divided into pickups, the expendable resources, and upgrades, the items which can be permanently collected from various places, typically in chests.

For fully unique items, refer to Main Weapons, Sub-Weapons, Usable Items, Treasures, and Seals.

Pickups[]

The following are Collectibles which drop from enemies, pots, or coin chests. They are collected by walking over them, which will cause their respective icon to appear over the player's head with a number indicating the quantity received. After remaining on screen for several seconds, they will begin to flicker and eventually disappear, so be sure to pick them up quickly. Having a Item Fairy with you will dramatically increase the rate at which pickups appear as well as the quantity received.

Coins[]

Icon coins

The currency in La-Mulana. They come in various denominations and are usually found in Pots or Coin Chests, but can also fall from defeated enemies and (more reliably) Sub-Bosses. These are necessary to purchase many essential items found in the various shops throughout the ruins. The player's current Coin count can be found in the upper-right corner of the screen. The maximum number of coins that can be carried is 999.

Soul Stones[]

Icon soulstone

Also known as Soul Orbs. Many Monsters will leave behind these floating green orbs when defeated. Collecting Soul Stones will gradually fill the blue bar called the Soul Meter below your Health, and when filled completely, your Health will be fully restored. This is the only way to recover Health other than visiting Hot Springs, summoning a Healing Fairy, collecting a Sacred Orb, or defeating a Guardian. As your maximum Health increases by collecting Sacred Orbs, so too does the amount of Soul needed to refill it. Sub-Bosses will leave behind much larger orbs worth a significant amount of Soul. However, the full heal after defeating a Guardian will always reduce your Soul Meter to 0.

Weights[]

Icon weight

The most essential resource for solving puzzles in the ruins. Weights are needed to activate Pedestals, as well as bypass certain walls, so it's always a good idea to carry some with you. In fact, on the Wii and PC versions of the game, before acquiring the Holy Grail, it's possible to get stuck in the Spring in the Sky by running out of weights, so watch out!

Though certain types of enemies can drop weights, and a few pots are guaranteed to drop one the first time you break them, the most reliable way to acquire weights is to purchase them in shops. The player's current Weight count can be found in the upper-right corner of the screen. The maximum number of weights that can be carried is 100.

The following is a complete list of shops that sell weights.

Ammo[]

Icon shurikenammo

Ammo is an expendable resource which is required to use most Sub-Weapons, and must be purchased or collected to continue using the weapons beyond their initial stock. After the player obtains the appropriate sub-weapon, additional Ammo can most reliably be purchased in shops (it will be displayed as SOLD OUT until then), and will also begin to drop from specific types of monsters and as one-time drops from certain pots (or very rarely, coin chests). The current Ammo available for a sub-weapon can be viewed over its icon in the upper-right corner of the screen, when equipped, as well as in the menu at any time. The maximum amount of ammo you can carry varies by sub-weapon. Refer to Sub-Weapons for information on each weapon's ammo capacity and locations.

(Not to be confused with the Ammunition item for the Pistol, which is an expendable resource that can be purchased in shops, but not a pickup. Information on it is currently located on the Sub-Weapons page, but may be moved here in the future.)

Upgrades[]

Sacred Orb[]

Icon sacredorb

Your strength increases just by having it. Don't eat it though.
--Elder Xelpud

Sacred Orbs are the most essential item for surviving in the ruins. Each one permanently increases your maximum Health by 32, with the added bonus of fully restoring it when the Orb is collected. Each pairing of front/backside fields contains one Sacred Orb, including the Surface (but not including Hell Temple), for a total of 10 Sacred Orbs, and 352 possible max Health. Beating the game with all 10 will cause Philosopher Alsedana to appear during the credits (see Endings).

The following is a complete list of locations for Sacred Orbs. Please refer to their respective pages for how to obtain each.

Map[]

Icon map

Rather than simply displaying rooms as they're "discovered," La-Mulana has items called Maps, which once found will allow the player to view the layout of the current area, regardless of where they have not yet been. Every field contains a Map (including the Surface) which must be obtained before it can be viewed, for 17 Maps total. Beating the game with all 17 Maps will cause Nebur to appear during the credits (see Endings). Maps require the use of a map software (either yagomap.exe or yagostr.exe) to view them on the Pause screen, where the current area's Map will appear as a grid of rectangles, indicating your current room with a blinking Lemeza head. This will also allow you to see the name of each room above the Map, which is useful for solving many puzzles.

Further detail (such as hidden rooms, outlined in pink) can be viewed on maps by combining the two map software programs. Refer to the legend below for meanings of the various Map icons. However, even this does not display everything, for example, Chests or Weapon Covers, and it gives no indication of the layouts of the rooms themselves, so creating your own maps outside the game can still be a valuable strategy. Fully-detailed Maps of each area can be viewed on their respective pages.
